Visitors, community group members and the general public get to "Show us Your Superhero", coloring or drawing their own superhero image and writing their own superhero stories.

About Us

Breast Cancer is Tough - but so are YOU :)

Minnesota-based artist Barbara Porwit was a single mom working full time and trying to find time for the studio, when suddenly - it seemed everyone she knew got breast cancer: not just one or two, but 6, 8, ten or more women she held dear were diagnosed in a 6 month period of time.

Then her friend Jill started posting what "superpower" she got every day based on the music that was playing during her radiation treatments (ie like Spiderman and the radioactive spider bite...); another friend posted pictures of heading to chemo in her superhero goggles and cape  --- (!)

A Hero's Journey - Told

Barbara decided the world needed to see just how amazing these women were. And the Breast Cancer Superhero Portrait Project was born.

“Superheroes wear clever disguises. They manage to walk around without attracting the slightest bit of attention. But then trouble strikes, and we actually get to witness their incredible power. And what a sight it is to behold.”

- Wonder Woman Katy (Katy Tessman)
