And the finished piece: Margaret Udo as Shuri, painted by Geno Okok. Incredible work!

    HCMC, You are Our Hero!

HCMC Commissions new Breast Cancer Superhero Portrait

Hennepin Healthcare's Inspire Arts Program partnered with their Comprehensive Cancer Center and Wanzek Family Breast Care Center to highlight one of their own as a superhero. So deserving, new subject Margaret Udo is both a care provider and a patient: she works as an inpatient nurse at HCMC, and was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in 2023.   She says of her experience:

“It's hard when you see patients with the same thing you have, telling you their story. Although I'm experiencing side effects and facing cancer myself, each day is a blessing. Faith, family and determination are my superpowers.”

Find out more about Margaret's story and her superhero of choice in the Blog.

    Guest Artist: GENO OKOK

Born in Western Nigeria, Geno Okok describes his style of painting as "Realistic Expressionism." His work illustrates joyful moments with everyday people, capturing various elements of the African spirit: beauty, music, fashion, femininity, and grace.
